The Distillers Edition expression of Dalwhinnie goes through a secondary maturation process in casks previously used for fortified wine. The addition of Oloroso sherry enhances the fragrance of the whiskey without overpowering the distinct notes of heather honey from the distillery. The inclusion of fresh sherry highlights the maltier and more honeyed characteristics of Dalwhinnie.

The flavor profile of this whiskey is both peaty and surprisingly still reminiscent of heather. It offers a spicy yet grape-like taste. On the palate, there is a bold and spicy sensation followed by a well-defined malt flavor that builds up impressively. After a quick burst of sweetness, a rich grape-like effect emerges in the middle. The finish is characterized by a strong oak presence and a very dry mouthfeel, with vanilla dominating the overall taste.
